ASHTANGA YOGA
Ashtanga yoga which basically means "eight limbed yogs", is a system outlined in the Yoga Sutras attributed to the ancient sage Patanjali . The Yoga Sutras are general guidelines for spiritual growth through right living.
Ashtanga yoga is dynamic, flowing style that connects the movement of the body with breath.
According to Patanajli, the path of internal purification for revealing the Universal self consists of the following eight spiritual practices;
Yama= moral codes
Niyama= self purification and study
Asana = postures
Pranayama = breath control
Pratyahara= sense control
Dharna= concentration
Dhyana= meditation
Samadhi= absorption into the universal.
The definition of Yoga is controlling of the mind and the first two steps towards controlling the mind is Yama and Niyama, however controlling of the mind cannot happen if the body and the sense organs are weak, thus practicing asanas daily will help in making the sense organs and the body strong and healthy .
The Ashtanga Yoga is a systematized practice of prescribed yoga postures to channel the energy through the body locks (bandhas) and focusing at a particular point (drishti) in asanas. It is the practice of six series, primary Ashtang Yoga series, being the basis of all other series. The three elements of Ashtanga yoga (breath, bandhas, and drishti) make this yoga form a cleansing and moving meditation practice.
Practicing Ashtanga Yoga is extremely beneficial, for the body, mind and soul.;
Improvement in core endurance.
Enhance flexibility.
Reduces stubborn body fat.
Builds inner strength.
Relieve from stress.
prevents injury,and a lot more.
